A Google search for “my + fan + page+ disappeared” returns about 30,000,000 hits, with People and businesses puzzling over how to get their fan page back. The word over at Quora was to hire an expensive PR firm that had connections with Facebook. The word on Twitter was “just look at who runs the company!”
While searching for disappearing fan pages I ran into bradsdeals.com who lost their Black Friday fan page in late 2009, four days before “Black Friday!” They also lost their vanity url blackfridaydeals to blackfriday.net.
Imagine you had just launched a website, received over 3 Million visits in 3 weeks and had over 100,000 fans on your website’s Facebook Fan Page and then POOF – the fan page is gone – moved to a different URL, your access is blocked, with Facebook offering no support and mistakenly redirecting your fans to a competitor’s fan page.
It just happened to us
We did not spend too much time puzzling over getting the GetCocoon fan page back. The writing was already on the wall. Since Facebook is notorious for providing bad customer service and non-responsive to small businesses in general, we figured it would be in our best interest to start a new fan page. So we did. We hope you will stop by and “Like” GetCocoon soon!
